The Step of No Motivation

On Threads, a photo circulated of a cat lying on stairs. Health-related words were posted on the steps: swollen feet; back pain; no motivation. The cat was on the bottom step — sleeping on no motivation. That alone completes the scene.

Probably the stairs began as health promotion — notice swelling or back pain while climbing; perhaps a nudge to move the body. Then a cat lies down and meaning shifts. No motivation stops being text and becomes a body: stretched forepaws, slack torso, fully discharged posture. A human symptom label is expressed in one glance by a cat.

Coincidence — or too perfect for coincidence. The cat says nothing yet is completely readable. A health-awareness staircase becomes a small comic altar to fatigue; public signage folklorized by animal placement.

The Field should collect not only heavy illness and death but small bodily malaise, laughable exhaustion, meaningless alignments — part of daily folklore. Threadsで、階段に寝そべる猫の写真が流れてきた。階段には、健康に関する言葉が貼られている。足のむくみ。背中の痛み。やる気が出ない。猫は、その一番下の段にいる。つまり、猫は「やる気が出ない」の上で寝ている。これだけで、もう完成している。

もともとは、おそらく健康啓発のための階段だったのだと思う。階段を上ることで、足のむくみや背中の痛みに気づく。あるいは身体を動かそうというメッセージだったのかもしれない。でも、そこに猫が寝る。すると意味が変わる。

「やる気が出ない」は、文字ではなくなる。猫の身体になる。伸びた前足。だらんとした胴体。完全に脱力した姿勢。人間が説明しようとした不調を、猫が一瞬で表現してしまう。

これは、偶然なのか。必然なのか。たぶん、偶然でいい。でも、偶然にしてはできすぎている。Fieldでは、こういうものも拾っておきたい。重い病気や死の言葉だけではなく、身体の小さな不調、笑える脱力、意味のない一致も、日々の民俗の一部だから。
