On Substack Notes, a post like quiet self-help circulated.

Be private.

Accept the loneliness.

Fix your life in silence.

No one is coming to save you.

Quite strong words.

There is a modern ethic of self-salvation here.

Do not show yourself.

Do not cling.

Do not explain.

Do not seek to be understood.

Rebuild your life with what remains.

Discipline louder than excuses.

Healing more important than being understood.

Reconstruction rather than waiting for rescue.

Such language is very common on SNS now.

It seems gentle yet is strict.

It seems to encourage yet pushes away.

It seems to urge independence yet beautifies isolation.

Of course, there are times when it is needed.

If one only seeks to be understood, one may not move forward.

Sympathy can keep one dwelling in pain.

Time to quietly put life in order is indeed necessary.

Tidy the room. Rest the body. Change how one works. Restore meals. Sleep. Rebuild oneself before explaining to others.

That matters.

Yet the reply section was interesting.

Someone answered in the language of faith.

I am never alone. Christ is here. The Holy Spirit is within. I am loved as God's child.

In other words, against no one is coming to save you, they return: no, I am not alone.

Another answered in the language of relationship.

Healing matters. But healing does not exclude relationship with others. Healthy relationships are not rescue missions. They are what help each other become more alive.

This is very good.

The original post says do not wait for salvation.

The replies say salvation and relationship are not the same.

Being saved by someone. Having relationship with someone.

These two are not identical.

Not dependence but mutuality. Not rescue but mutual support. Not isolation but quiet connection.

People sometimes need time to rebuild alone.

Yet they are not required to rebuild only alone.

Rather, people can break in relationship and return a little in relationship.

It is painful to think one cannot heal without being understood.

Yet it is also painful to think one need never be understood.

Healing is not isolation.

Being quiet is not the same as relying on no one.

Rebuilding oneself is not the same as being cut off from the world.

Not begging for help is not the same as refusing help received.

This post expresses both the strength and the risk of modern self-help.

By declaring no one is coming to save you, people can wake up.

Yet with those words, truly lonely people may fall even more silent.

So perhaps what is needed is language like this:

Someone may not necessarily come to save you.

Yet you are not incapable of relating to anyone.

Being understood alone is not healing.

Yet you need not live without ever being understood.

Substack Notes

Be private.

Accept the loneliness.

Fix your life in silence.

No one is coming to save you.
