On TikTok, a clip styled like a television news broadcast circulates under a playlist name that roughly means "I let AI try it." The caption calls it end-of-the-world fake news. The platform marks AI-generated media. The observatory does not rehost the video — what we record is the imitation of news form itself.
This is not presented as a real news source. It is a meme of authority: AI anchor, headline, ticker, place name, emergency tone — the visual grammar of broadcast trust compressed into a scrollable artifact. The poster names the genre while performing it.
Where When Realism Becomes Fear tracks synthetic faces crossing a believability threshold, this field note tracks synthetic institutions. News ceases to be only an institution you verify; it becomes a template you can prompt — anchor voice, urgency font, breaking banner, all reusable.
