On Threads, a photograph of a beautiful headpiece circulated. White fabric-like material rose around the head like flowers, a vortex, the trace of wind. On its display stand, the work looked less like mere ornament than a bundle of hand, time, and material memory.
The post noted that a fashion school has excellent students who can make such things — yet the course may be discontinued. What becomes visible is not the object alone but the disappearance of the environment that made it possible: a student touching material, bending, layering, lifting into form — and behind that, teachers, tools, a classroom, time, a place where failure is allowed.
Institutions often close such spaces first. People want to learn. People can make. Still the class vanishes. In the AI era, making is said to grow easier — images, music, text from prompts. Yet at the same time, education for making by hand, time to know materials, skills learned through the body quietly disappear.
This headpiece is not an anti-AI object. It is what becomes visible in the AI age: as more can be generated, the value of what was not generated rises. A similar image might be produced quickly — but the hesitation of hands on material, classroom air, a teacher's advice, traces of failure, pre-graduation anxiety are not easily generated.

Threadsで、美しいヘッドピースの写真が流れてきた。白い布のような素材が、頭部のまわりで花のように、渦のように、風の跡のように立ち上がっている。展示台に置かれたその作品は、ただの装飾品というより、手と時間と素材の記憶をまとっているように見える。
投稿には、文化服装学院にはこうしたものを作れる優秀な生徒がいるのに、その課がなくなってしまうらしい、と書かれていた。ここで見えてくるのは、作品そのものだけではない。作品を可能にしていた環境の消失である。
ひとりの生徒が、素材を触り、曲げ、重ね、立ち上げ、形にする。その背後には、教える人がいる。道具がある。教室がある。時間がある。失敗してもよい場所がある。しかし、制度はしばしば、そういう場所を先に閉じてしまう。学びたい人がいる。作れる人がいる。それでも、課がなくなる。
AI時代には、「作ること」はどんどん簡単になると言われる。画像も、音楽も、文章も、プロンプトから生成できる。けれど同時に、手で作るための教育、素材を知るための時間、身体で覚える技術は、静かに失われていく。
このヘッドピースは、AIに対する反対物ではない。むしろ、AI時代に改めて見えてくるものだ。生成できるものが増えるほど、生成されなかったものの価値が見えてくる。短時間で似たイメージを出すことはできるかもしれない。でも、素材に触れた手の迷い、教室の空気、先生の助言、失敗の痕跡、卒業制作前の焦りまでは、簡単には生成されない。
