On Bluesky, a researcher asks ChatGPT to visualize a survey-wave problem as a melting clock. The image is surreal, academic, and slightly ridiculous — but the request is serious. The problem is abstract; the image is offered as evidence that the problem was understood deeply enough to need a metaphor.
This is a different genre from fake nostalgia or synthetic family photos. The generated image is not pretending to be a document of the past. It is a proof photograph for thinking: here is what it feels like when a method problem will not sit still.
In folklore terms, the pattern is research problem → surreal machine metaphor. AI becomes not an artist but a visual notary for conceptual labor. The clock melts not because Dali is fashionable, but because the wave structure refuses linear time.
