A Threads post jokes: I thought I would read punch tape when I grew up; fifty years passed, and I became a fine adult who cannot even read the air. An old anime still shows a man holding hole-punched strip — once the future's readable symbol. The observatory does not rehost the image. What we record is misaligned futures.
This is not mere retro nostalgia. Childhood imagined the future as a special code only adults could decode. Punch tape vanished; smartphones, cloud, AI, and feeds arrived instead. The unreadable did not disappear — it migrated: context, atmosphere, algorithmic tone, plausible AI sentences, human silence.
The folk pattern is old future → obsolete literacy → unreadable social atmosphere.
